Class is in Session: Make an Upcycled Chalkboard Table
Margo Cochran
Summer has been flying by, and now that we've hit August, back-to-school is right around the corner. Jeanne Connolly of Vintage Renewal helped us put together the Sleepy Head (Board) in the August/September issue, and is now showing us how to repurpose items into an upcycled toddler chalkboard table. Follow her instructions below to get in the back-to-school spirit.
Materials:
- Vintage Picture Frame
- Plywood cut to order at hardware store
- Wood glue
- Clamps
- Chalk Paint
- Primer
- New or Vintage Table legs and hardware
- Paint
- Suitcase trim
- Glue Gun and Glue
- Screw driver
Instructions:
1. Locate a Vintage Picture Frame and bring it to your local hardware store. Have them cut a piece of Plywood to the same size of your picture frame.
2. Prime the plywood and then paint with chalk paint.
3. Take wood glue and attach the vintage frame to your chalk painted plywood. Clamp and wait 24 hours for firm hold.
4. Locate new or vintage coffee table height legs. In this project, I repurposed vintage coffee table legs and repainted them. Prime legs and paint them to your desired color.
5. Use existing hardware if vintage or purchase with new legs at your local hardware store. Take screwdriver and attach to the back of your chalk painted plywood. Screw legs into hardware.
6. Take interior ruffled trim from a vintage suitcase and hot glue around the base of your picture frame for extra flair.
