I've never had much of a green thumb, so decorative plants are out for me. And to be honest, I've never given a second thought to my encounters with fake plants over the years---until now. Gene Pittman, assistant photographer at Walker Art Center in Minnesota, has been documenting the history of decorative plants in their gallery for nearly forty years. He notes that potted plants were once a staple in their gallery, yet since 1971, they've become noticeably absent. I find it fascinating how the plants almost act as people---some sulking in the corners whispering amongst themselves, other soaking in the prime spotlight next to their favorite pieces. Interesting indeed. [Images, from top to bottom: Gene Pittman, Walker Art Center]
