Pawsome Pets on Canvas—The Contest

Alexa Fornoff

If you're like me, you think your little buddy is the cutest thing in the whole. wide. world. I've only had my pup for two weeks, and already I have more than 100 snaps of the fluffy guy. Our friends over at Pawesome (started by Sonia, one of our home and garden bloggers) know the feeling, and they are here to help.

Now through September 17th, they're accepting photos of your prized pets  . . . Continue Reading

Tea For Two Cute!

Erin Loechner

I'm an avid tea drinker, and I'm so excited for the leaves to change so I can officially switch from summery green mango to a cozy blend of chai and milk. And what better way to celebrate the change of seasons than with a bonfire for my beverage?

Enter my new favorite tea trivet: a sweet campfire to keep my tea warm all day long! And when paired with this knitted tea set? It's a fall wonderland indeed!

Bring on the cooler weather, Mother Nature! We're ready.

Contemporary Art Crate Digging

Lily Kane

I just got to flip through one of the most inspiring exhibition catalogues I’ve seen in a long time, this beautifully designed and printed catalogue for The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl, which opened last week at The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. Curator Trevor Schoonmaker put together a collection of works that all employ vinyl records in some capacity. The survey includes  . . . Continue Reading

Design Within Your Pets Reach

Sonia Zjawinski

Here's something for all you miniature fans out there.

The market for cute pet beds has grown over the years, but nothing beats mimicking your own furniture. ModPet sells two loungers through its Etsy store that, at first glance, look like something you'd see at Design Within Reach. Take a second look and you realize these plush sofas are mini modern pieces for furry companions.

Retors du Nord: The Fanciest Craft Supply for the Fanciest Crafter

Polly Conway

Usually I get my embroidery thread at thrift stores, even though it only costs about 39 cents full-price. That's how cheap I am! If it passes my odor test (no hints of cat pee or old-lady-smell), it's coming home with me. But I was floored when I came across this heavenly set of cotton floss on The Purl Bee, from the French company Sajou. The full 96-color set of Retors du Nord looks like a fresh box of  . . . B-Cycle Comes to Des Moines

Caitlin Thornton

Des Moines has now joined Denver and Chicago in the list of cities that offer B-cycle. According to the website B-cycle is a "next-gen bike sharing system. Just swipe your card, grab a bike, and get to where you're going." Rather than renting, sharing your wheels allows you to drop your bike off at a different location than where you picked it up (in Des Moines, racks have been spotted near the  . . . Keep it Simple- End of Summer Fruit Salad with Chili and Lime

Amy Palanjian

Keith, a frequent RM contributor, send me these images of a salad/snack that he had at a taco stand called Pico de Gallo outside of Tuscon, Arizona. It's simply jicama, watermelon and mango splashed with lime juice and dusted with chili powder, which sounds delicious. Plus, while it may be September, I know that many of us are still feeling hot temps. (We are.)

And according to Keith, "the chilled sweet fruit and the hotness of the chili powder is awesome".

A Pop-Proof Balloon Dog!

Erin Loechner

Have you seen anything this cute today? No. You haven't. Face it.

Created by Charming Pet, Dudley the Dog is meant to be a sweet toy for your favorite pup, yet I'm thinking it would make a stylish addition to any creative vignette in your home.

A fun statement piece, no? Just don't fight Fido for it—something tells me you'll lose.

Arcade Fire In Your Hometown

Melissa Goldstein

If Arcade Fire wasn't already so successful at being Canada's most evocative indie rock export, the band could easily pursue a career as a gang of super villains.

The group's latest project, a musical film titled The Wilderness Downtown, pairs the group's crescendo-tastic tune "We Used to Wait" (off their new album The Suburbs) with images of the viewer's hometown—the location of  . . . Continue Reading
