Dice Make Nice: A Different Take on Letterpress

Alexa Fornoff

dice print

(via Stukenborg)

Stukenborg makes posters with intriguing patterns, sure, and the fact that these patterns are developed using regular old dice makes them even more interesting. After arranging the pieces one by one on the base of a letterpress, Stukenborg rolls on the ink and presses each print. (via Dudecraft, via Paper Crave)

Turn Scruffy Winter Tights into a Sweet Spring Scarf: Tutorial by Obstinate Pursuit

Polly Conway

scarf1

UK crafter Clair Rigby of Obstinate Pursuit has generously shared a grand spring idea: what to do with your scruffy pairs of winter tights when sunny days finally appear! Why, cut 'em up and make a comfy, light scarf.

Due to my extreme ninja lifestyle, I'm pretty rough on tights, but it can be heartbreaking to trash a pair with just a few runs or  . . . Continue Reading

Pea shoots, pea scores!

Anna Bond

photo from Flickr: benketaro's photostreamCrunchy and grassy, pea shoots are spring’s first salvo, bringing much-needed freshness and chlorophyll to produce-lovers pale and wearied by winter. But they’re more than just a harbinger of the season: equally tasty cooked and raw, pea shoots are versatile, and can replace later-season greens and herbs in those warm-weather recipes you’re eager to bring back into rotation after many  . . . Every Person in New York by Jason Polan

Carmela Ciuraru

On his blog recently, artist Jason Polan announced a modest proposal. "I am trying to draw every person in New York," he wrote. "I will be drawing people every day and posting as frequently as I can. It is possible that I will draw you without you knowing it. I draw in Subway stations and museums and restaurants and on street corners. I try not to be in the way when I am drawing or be too  . . . Angst-Ridden for ANG

Erin Loechner

740-muuuz-ang-house-chenchow-little-architects-2 I'm heading down south to vacation on the beach next week, where I'm so, so excited to do nothing but read, soak and sun. Yet secretly, I'm wishing my travels were leading me to Sydney, Australia, to stay in Chenchow Little's recent creation, the ANG house: 740-muuuz-ang-house-chenchow-little-architects-6 Those slats! That white! The open concept! The sunlight! 740-muuuz-ang-house-chenchow-little-architects-4 You can feel the Australian breeze, can't you? Me, too. [via muuuz]

Vintage Favorites: Krenit Bowls

Lily Kane

Just got this gust of spring color in an invitation for Trio, an exhibition at Rocket Gallery in London featuring Krenit bowls by Herbert Krenchel alongside work by Hans Wegner and Ib Geertsen. Originally designed in the early 1950s, the Krenit bowl is one of my favorite vintage objects. It is a pop of bright enamel in a matte black bowl. Krenit bowls come in varying sizes and rarities,  . . . Continue Reading

Retail Reality: Blood, Sweat, and T-Shirts

Tricia Royal

bst

Most of the time television is a medium for marketing:  advertisements and programs are oftentimes little more than a way to get us to shop and want. Rare is the show that makes us think twice about what we buy or where it comes from. Enter Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts. It's a four-part reality show that follows the journey of six, spoiled young British fast-fashion addicts as they  . . . Continue Reading

Vintage Suitcase Chairs by Recreate

Megan Jeyifo

I found two amazing suitcases at a thrift store a few months ago and have been scouring the web for ideas on what to do with them besides stuff them into an already packed closet. Since my sixty-five pound puppy is a bit too large for the vintage suitcase pet beds Polly posted about over at Make Nice, I'm still on the hunt. How about some chairs? I'm not sure I'll be able to pull  . . . Continue Reading

Love (and Lodge with) the Stranger: The Perks of Hospitality Exchange

Helen Jupiter

hospitality-exchange

Before I went backpacking alone around Russia and Europe a few years ago, I sent out an email to all of my friends asking them to put me in touch with friends and relatives who would be willing to host (or even just hang out with) me. I wound up staying with friends (and friends of friends, and family of friends of friends) in Moscow, St. Petersburg,  . . . Continue Reading

How-To: Faux Polaroids in Photoshop

Katherine Sharpe

polaroid effect I just stumbled across the aptly-named DIY wedding blog, 'I do' It Yourself. Written by an Aussie art director and wedding-stationery-designer, the site is full of project tutorials that are wedding-appropriate—though most can probably be adapted for other uses, too. Yesterday, the blogstress (whose name I can't find) posted a tutorial explaining how to use Photoshop to make faux Polaroids. I haven't road-tested it yet, but it looks like a promising technique.
