It’s About That Time Again: Score! Pop-Up Swap is Looking for Volunteers for Tomorrow’s Event

Alexa Fornoff

Brooklyn's pop-up swap Score! is still looking for some volunteers for Saturday's mega event. RSVPs for the swap are almost maxed out, so this would be a great way to attend for free and check out the goods first (as a volunteer, you get first dibs). If you happen to be in the area of 400 Carroll St between Bond & Nevins from noon until 6, consider volunteering your time and score some new gear while you're at it. Click here to sign up!

Color My World: Starburst by Kevin Moore

Leilani Labong

Mitch Epstein, Madison Avenue, New York City, 1973

Starburst: Color Photography in America 1970-1980, a shiny new tome by Kevin Moore, probably won't have the same eye-candy impact for black-and-white photography purists as it would for, say, us common folk. Flipping through its 301 pages of brilliant imagery by the likes of William Eggelston, Stephen Shore, Helen Levitt and Mitch  . . . Continue Reading

Waterfall Record Player Sculpture by Wang Jinsheng

Jaime Derringer

One of the showstoppers for me at ICFF this year was Wang Jinsheng's sculptural record players. He had a few on display: one was a true record player on a beautiful slab of what appeared to be granite, another featured a sand zen garden, and my favorite was this waterfall one. I regret not capturing it on video. He was so humble, saying that he didn't think anyone would even  . . . Continue Reading

Loving Letters: Erin Hanson’s Reminders

Melissa Goldstein

Living in London, as I do, one gets accustomed to "the man" doling out instructions ("look left" and "look right" adorn every crosswalk, urging pedestrians to be savvy about the direction of oncoming traffic). I've often thought, usually on Mondays following Sundays when I've had a bit too much wine, how helpful it would be if simple instructions such as these adorned other fixtures  . . . Summer Fantasy Furniture: Carlos Motta for Espasso

Katherine Sharpe

I was noodling around on the web yesterday when I stumbled upon a design find I am quite taken with. Carlos Motta is a Brazilian designer who, according to the bio on his website, began to work with wood in the early '70s, as an offshoot of the surfing he loved to do on the coast off Sao Paulo---the waves would wash driftwood ashore, and Motta's first experiments with  . . . Lil-Century Modern: Contemporary Furniture Classics for Children

Chris Gardner

I love other people's children. But I'd love them even more if they were snuggling atop an tiny Eames lounge or enjoying a coloring book in a Saarinen womb chair.

Turns out, I can get my wish. Little Nest is an Australian company that makes tyke-sized modern kids furniture. Even more adorably, they give each model a kiddish twist on the name: so the Swan  . . . Continue Reading
