Yes. I've quit. It's official. Perhaps it's the depressing snow on the ground paired with the absence of my favorite boots, but I simply can't bear the thought of one more day in fashion pergatory. And yes, I'm incredibly melodramatic. Ask my mother.

In case you're behind in this mini-series, I took on a 30 for 30 fashion challenge where I had to remix just thirty items over thirty days to create thirty different outfits. A natural-born remixer, I thought the challenge would be a piece of cake. But then? I had a bit of a breakdown and fell off the wagon. Naturally, things were pretty much downhill from there.

Today, I'm somewhere between Day 18 and Day 19 and am finished. Sure, I made it to the dreaded halfway point, but I miss my favorite items, staring at me from the depths of my wardrobe. I miss my statement pieces, like my grandmother's velvet blazer from the 60s and that crazy kaleidoscope skirt that matches nothing. I miss the spontaneity of waking up in the morning and choosing from the array of colors, textures and patterns in my closet -- all begging for their moment in the sun (or snow).

See, I like to think that the reason we experiment with monthly challenges is to try on a lifestyle. You know, see if it fits. I halfway expected this thirty day challenge to wrap around me so beautifully that I'd embrace the change and alter my lifestyle completely. Less shopping, less collecting, and certainly less hoarding. Yet, just like my kaleidoscope skirt that's been off limits for the past month, this challenge simply doesn't go with anything else. It doesn't fit my lifestyle; my desire to dress completely different on a daily basis and transform my look and aesthetic multiple times per week.

And I'm perfectly fine with that. After all, isn't that what becoming a creative is all about? The comfort of your skin. Your quirks, your habits, your struggles, and your rules.

My new rule? Wear whatever the hell I want to.

And if you see a gal in a kaleidoscope skirt tomorrow, smile and wave. She's getting her groove back.
