Last week artist and curator extraordinaire Maria Alexandra Vettese returned to chelliswilson in her hometown of Portland, Maine for the exhibition "Come Darkness," her "homage to winter light and a chance to welcome in the changing season." The exhibition runs until December 31st. I won't make it to Maine, but the images posted online are stunning and if you're in the area, I highly recommend an in-person visit.

Last year's exhibition featured thoughtful and beautiful prints, textiles, paintings and more by a group of 26 artists and designers selected by Vettese. This year the spotlight is on Vettese's own dreamy photography, more specifically, her quest to document and dissect the fading light of each day during the month of October. The result is an inspiring array of prints and fabric capturing the winter sky in knock-out images that range from cold and crisp to almost dewy and warm. The scarves, pictured above and below, really blew me away. Vettese took her images and printed them onto silk crepe de chine and had the edges finished locally in Maine. The pieces are some of the most inspiring textile design I've encountered. Each image is available as an edition of 10, signed and numbered. As the statement online says—"Wear the light!" What a great idea.
