I have a small tin of sweetened condensed milk in my cupboard. Originally I bought it way back in December to make a quick n' easy fudge. I made the fudge, but I also must have purchased an extra tin of the sweetened milk because now it's just staring out at me all lonely-like. For instant inspiration gratification, I hopped online to see what kind of warm-weather treats I could create with my sweet milky tin.

My first stop was over at Cookbook Catchall where I spied these icy beauts. I love Vietnamese coffee on ice, but have never thought to make such a pretty popsicle. Definitely a perfect way to get your caffeine fix even on the hottest summer day.

I had a friend who went to Bali and when he came back we couldn't stop raving about these crazy avocado shakes he had there. The Traveller's Lunchbox creates a very similar version but adds in some orange essence for an added citrus punch. Sweetened with condensed milk, this is a very tropical way to enjoy your avocado.

Nosh whips up a quick n' dirty Brazillian Lemonade using some readymade limeade and ice along with the condensed milk to create a sweet and sour icy drink. Now, this is my kind of drink. Sweet and sour and refreshing.

Over at Seattle Bon Vivante, I found a slightly different version that includes fresh limes, sparkling water and is a riff off a drink she had at a Vietnamese restaurant. She claims that hers is much better and I can believe it. While I won't have the amazing looking limes that she got from her parents' garden, I'm sure I can make do with the limes from my local Chinatown market. And I'm sure a shot of rum wouldn't hurt things either.

It turns out there's quite a few options for icy beverages made with sweetened condensed milk. So this spring, skip the dulce de leche and the super sweet desserts and try something new!
