I'm a sucker for Halloween. Every year, I get together with a bunch of friends and we carve pumpkins, eat the seeds, watch stupid scary movies and have a giant sleepover. We have a couple rules: one, the movies can't be genuinely nightmare-inducing (because we're all chickens at heart). In the past, movies like Teeth, Just Before Dawn and Ginger Snaps have provided the perfect balance between fun and totally terrifying. And two, we need snacks & cocktails. Lots of 'em.

Dumping mini snack-sized chocolate bars into a bowl doesn't make for the most inspiring Halloween snack. A couple years ago I made some salted honey caramel apples which were a perfect fall treat. However, this year, I'm thinking of something downright sinister. I did a bit of blog snooping and found the following hair-raising snack ideas.

Donuts to Delirium takes some innocuous looking sweet white chocolate cardamon truffles and gives them the scare treatment by adding a pair of plastic eyeballs in a bowl. Eeeeek!!!

Using some refrigerated pie crust and some homemade pumpkin pie filling, Brooke over at Babble creates some super cute jack-o-lantern poptarts. Tastes like pie but looks like Halloween.

If you are insanely ambitious and looking for a crafty project along with a creepy scare, make these white and bittersweet chocolate truffle skulls with candied walnut brains. The recipe and detailed instructions can be found at Figs with Bri.

If you're looking for something equally eerie but without all the work, these nasty (but oh-so-tasty) chicken bones from Food Mayhem are made from a pretzel stick, 2 mini marshmallows and some white chocolate.

Cocktails always play a big part in our little sleepover celebrations, so why not try something a bit dark? This sour and icky looking drink packs a deadly wallop. Three kinds of booze and some black licorice all go into the witches cap to create this black widow cocktail over at Talk of Tomatoes

While this meatloaf doesn't fall under the late night munchies category, I can't resist that mummified little face!  The Knead for Speed wraps this meaty mummy with trimmed lasagna noodles and gives it cheese & olive eyeballs for a truly scary Halloween-themed meal. Brilliant!
