Set the scene: Saturday night, twin sister's in town for a relaxing weekend after a grueling surgery rotation (someone else's, not hers; she's a student doctor), and we want classy bevs to drink while cheering on our number one favorite college football team. Cue the boyfriend, who suggests Old-Fashioneds. Unfortunately, there is no cocktail shaker to be found. Fortunately, there is a mason jar.

If you ever find yourself in a (gasp!) similar situation, might I suggest using the Honky Tonk Cocktail Shaker method. Take a clean Mason jar, complete with two lids and one ring, and get to business. Using an old fashioned can opener, pierce several holes in the top of one lid (he used a power drill and a bit, but this way would have been much easier and would have looked a heck of a lot better). Sand away any stray bits of metal on the underside, clean thoroughly, and set aside. In the jar, combine your necessary ingredients, cover with the non-pierced lid, and secure with the ring. Shake, shake, shake. Switch out the lid for the other one, and strain over ice in a glass.

While this doesn't look the best by any means, it definitely got the job done.
