amaretto sour

I keep amaretto in my bar cabinet every winter. While it has plenty to offer besides a tipple—try it in your next batch of french toast or use it to doctor up a box mix cake—my most favorite cocktail is the amaretto sour. It's also a super easy drink to make because it contains only lemon juice (it's also delicious with lime juice) and amaretto.

My standard recipe is deliciously tart and simple. If you like your cocktails on the sweet side, pour in a 1/2 oz of simple syrup and use a cocktail shaker to blend.

Amaretto Sour
2 oz amaretto
1 oz lemon or lime juice
crushed ice

Pour ingredients into your favorite short glass. Stir.

You can give your amaretto sour an extra special twist by adding a farm fresh egg white to your cocktail shaker and giving it a really, really, really good shake (like a polaroid picture, about 5 minutes). The result will be a silky, foamy topper with a froth that resembles a soft and pillowy meringue.
