I like a good ghost story as much as the next masochistic scaredy cat, but Amityville Horror is not my kind of ghost story. Bearing this in mind, I'm going to type with my hands clasped in prayer just in case writing about the recent market listing of the original Amityville Horror house (108 Ocean Ave., Amityville, New York; although in 1974 when Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six of his family members there, the address was actually 112 Ocean Ave.) somehow unseals unwanted-spirit portals in the vicinity of anyone who gives it an inch of blog real estate. George and Kathy Lutz, played by James Brolin and Margot Kidder in the movie, purchased the six-bedroom, Dutch Colonial-style home, complete with the DeFeos' evil-residue-harboring furniture, the year after the slayings. The home's overabundance of depravity manifested in a slew of awful things, including green slime oozing from the walls, swarms of flies in the winter, revolving crucifixes, foul odors, and one sighting by George of his wife morphing into an old woman with "wild hair" and "saliva dripping from a toothless mouth." If you really want to know more design features about this $1.5M property, may I direct you to the original 1975 advertisement that lured the Lutzes to their, um, misfortune. Now off to drink a gallon of holy water! [Images: Daily Mail UK]
