What started out as a good ol' deep cleaning session turned into a re-purposeful garage makeover. Mr. Walters and his wife, Mrs. Walters, decided to cover the exposed studs of their 40-year-old garage with whatever scraps they had around (old shelving units, wood from art projects...). The duo started by tacking up the larger pieces first, free-form style, and then filled in the gaps with smaller scraps. A few aesthetic calls were made along the way, but they tried to leave the majority of the wood pieces untouched. After four sweaty nights (logging 3-4 hours at a time) during the hottest week of the year, the Honky Tonk Garage was complete.

A helpful tip from Mr. Walters:

You can do so much with a couple busted vanities. Also, if you're up to do something like this and you're searching the alleys for supplies, you really should bring work gloves and a few basic tools. There were so many great cabinet doors that I would've loved to grab, but I couldn't pull them off without a screwdriver or crowbar.

Now Mrs. Walters can play bluegrass with her friends from the Oak Park Farmers Market Band in true honky tonk style.
