Just Do It: Clean Out The Junk Drawer(s)
Megan Jeyifo

I'll spare you the actual before of the drawers and just show some of the spread that ended up on the floor while grouping everything together. A mirror in a craft drawer? For what? I knew I opened drawers and popped random items in them when I couldn't find a home for them but have no idea how that got there.

I moved all of the sewing/crafty stuff to one side, all of the extras that don't fit into my toolbox on the other. I have three tomato pin cushions but almost bought a new one last week. Weird. It took about forty-five minutes to get these drawers into usable shape. I have three kinds of tape and I now know where they live. That is priceless.

The last two drawers are really painful for me to show but the afters are worth it. The top photo is inside the drawer of the credenza I bought over the summer at my first estate sale. It held a thrifted bowl, some sunglasses, empty cases and to-go tissue. The bottom photo is of our bedside table and it used to live in the entryway, where the credenza is now. This is why it contains spare car keys; I didn't bother to clean it out when I made the switch. There's also a declaration of vaccination from 2009 and an empty gift card holder. No excuse for holding on to either of those! Total time spent for the two drawers together? About thirty minutes.

Score for another empty drawer! It only took about two and a half hours to whip my shameful junk drawers into shape. Now, I tackle the closets. I'm more than a little bit intimidated by that task, but over-the-moon-happy at the state of my former embarrassment.
When's the last time you cleaned your junk drawer(s)? What'd you find? Am I the only one with eleven of them? You can do it: clean out your junk drawers this weekend!
