I hope this goes without saying, especially to ReadyMade readers, but fake flowers? You're not fooling anyone.

I mean, I've seen some pretty passable faux bouquets in my day, but 99% of synthetic blooms look like they came straight from the nursing home. Which isn't a bad thing, if you live in a nursing home. Or think you might within the next few years.

But it can be quite pricey--and not very eco-friendly--to keep fresh blossoms in your home all the time, especially in multiple rooms. So, we're back to the pretend guys again.

I say this: In this, the week leading up to Valentine's Day, embrace the fact that fake flowers don't look real. Create one of these stylized options that still bring that sense of the outdoors into your home, but without the weird smell.

These modern looking blooms are made from yarn and found sticks.

Ez of Creature Comforts highlights this paper rose, which is created by cutting a coil and rolling the layers.

A similar rolling technique results in this felt bouquet, which can be dressed up for a tongue-in-cheek formal setting.

I created these super-stylized flowers made from ping pong balls.
