Our apartment's wood floors: yikes!
My husband and I have reached an impasse with our apartment: we need to do the work, get the work done, or move out.
We've been renting our two bedroom + closet-billed-as-a-bedroom for a little over two years. We've put in laborious hours on everything, from putting up fabric panels onto a wall from which we tore off shelving and a glued-on bulletin board (who glues that?!), to painting every paintable surface, including our hardwood bedroom floors. We've spackled, kind of learned how to use wood putty, and put a hurting on our drill.
Still, the baseboards need to be replaced altogether or seriously scraped, filled, and repainted. The wood floors in our main living areas are so scuffed and scratched and raw that our dog occasionally has wood pieces stuck to his fur after a nap. The oven starts randomly beeping two or three times a month, most recently at 2:30 AM yesterday morning, and nothing short of unplugging it turns the noise off. The yard is covered in dirt, gravel, and two or three patches of dead grass. We have to keep a towel underneath our bathtub because the old plumbing has a slow leak, but the building handyman says that he might break the pipe completely if he fixes it and a replacement would involve tearing out the wall. The bathroom has been painted four times and still looks a mess from the state of the cracked and marred walls. In short, this bad boy still needs a lot of work.
