...in this, the penultimate post in our countdown-to-
ICFF series.
Ryan Deussing and Randy Hunt are the brains behind
Supermarket, a curated website that connects buyers with selected designers and the things they make. Supermarket is the first project of the duo's development company,
Supercorp, which specializes in tools for creative commerce online.
The business partners consented to let us double-interview them—and even combined their photos into a single, side-by-side JPEG, which was sweet of them. (That's Ryan on the left, and Randy on the right.)

So, what's your name?
Ryan: Ryan Deussing
Randy: Randy J. Hunt
What do you do?
Ryan: I'm a member of the team behind SupermarketHQ.com
Randy: Me too!
Been going to the ICFF for a while? For business or pleasure?
Ryan: I've been a few times—it's work-related of course, but it's fun.
Randy: I've been a few times too. Your pleasure is our business.
What's your biggest piece of advice for a newcomer?
Ryan: Don't be afraid to introduce yourself and ask questions. The ICFF isn't just about product; it's a chance to meet people, share your work and learn from what others have to offer.
Randy: Go with a friend. You'll need someone to tell you to stop and rest.
Which exhibitors or events are you most looking forward to seeing?
Ryan: I like the
designboom mart. I think it and Supermarket are on the same wavelength.
Randy: I really enjoy seeing the student and emerging designers' work. I love when they're able to hold their own against the established designers. Last year, some students from SVA won the Editors' Choice award for
the best booth of the whole show!
How about parties?
Ryan: If you're reading this on the internet and would like to invite me to a party, I can be reached at [my first name]@wearesupercorp.com.
Randy: I'm looking forward to the Equilateral party that
IDSA NYC is behind. They've got an eclectic line-up of product, lighting, and fashion designers, including some of our Supermarket favorites like
ReSurface,
Etcetera Media, and
Munire Kirmaci.
What's your favorite thing about the ICFF?
Ryan: I love well-designed booths; the best ones are like little self-contained universes.
Randy: I enjoy the conversations and new connections with fellow attendees.
Any aspects you could do without?
Ryan: Only the exhaustion that comes with walking any big trade show. (The ICFF should consider setting up free espresso stands like Project did a couple years ago...)
Randy: Brochures! All you need is a pleasant memory and a URL.
For out-of-towners visiting the fair, are there any design-related excursions you'd recommend?
Ryan: If you're in Brooklyn I'd highly recommend checking out
3rd Ward—they're a really interesting organization that gives people access to tools and workspace for creative projects.
Randy: The open-to-the-public
Herb Lubalin Study Center archives at the Cooper Union are to die for. Anyone with an interest in design culture could spend hours there.
