Everyone loves them, everyone hates them, and everyone wants to be in them. Since we will most likely never make the pages of Vanity Fair, we have taken matters into our own hands... Last night at "ReadyMade’s Unofficially Official Spur of the Moment August/September Issue Release + Hello, Des Moines! Launch Party," in which we commandeered the JG Faux show, we learned quite a bit about the murky depths of Craigslist ads, editor-in-chief Andrew Wagner's parents, Sarah and Frank, and, most importantly some may say, exactly how to taste the rainbow. First things first: Jason Garnett and his band of merry workers definitely put on a fun show. Jen Morrow did a great (interesting? ironic?) spoken word rendition of a Nickelback song, and Ryan Adams (the camera guy, not the singer/songwriter) was there recording it all. Thanks again, Jason, for letting us take over your evening—we now have a new Wednesday night tradition. dsc_0189 Please note the disco ball in the right corner. Of course it was a good night! The evening started with "This Week on Cragislist" in which JG Faux points out a few of his favorite ads ranging from such topics as sugar mama and dominant master to father/son relationships and the Iowa State Fair. Then Andrew sat in a little white chair on stage and educated the audience on a variety of must-know topics. For instance, did you know that his father helped with the study of human head transplants in the late '60s? Better yet, did you know that was even a possibility? Or what about the likelihood of said parents coming to Des Moines and being on the JG Faux show themselves? And on sweet note, Andrew brought his wife Heather's new book for show and tell. It's called Happiness on $10 A Day, and it's rad. Andrew also enlightened the crowd on the Skittletini, or the Skittletini shot flight (commonly referred to as "tasting the rainbow"). It consists of skittles marinated in alcohol according to color, and then poured into shot glasses. The brightness of the color is positively correlated with how good the shot tastes, remember that. It was a fun night at a cool place with cool people and cold beer. Thanks Des Moines, it was a warm welcome to a new place and we are mighty glad to be here. dsc_0196 The August/September issue looks perfect sandwiched between some Grain Belts at the Des Moines Social Club.
