About six months ago, my dad moved the stereo out of our family room. I’ve been home for the summer since May, but it was only two weeks ago that I discovered this empty corner just waiting to be inhabited once again. The bare wood floor and the perfectly sized tuft of carpet drove me to set up shop (plug in my laptop) in a space that I hadn’t given a second glance for 20 years. The corner has become my little oasis away from all of the clutter the comes from moving back and forth from college.
It amazes me that I could have lived somewhere for 20 years and still discover new things—it reminds me of that sensation you get when you really take a look at the kitchen cabinets you use five times a day and say, “Ohhh, that’s what they look like.”
So take some time to look around the space in which you live, because what you find may surprise you. Maybe you’ll think of a better way to arrange your furniture, or maybe you’ll find a corner you can call your own.
