You’re Invited: RM100 Bash at the Wooly
ReadyMade

Put on your party hat and prepare yourself to get down with us. As part of the ReadyMade 100 prize package for winner Tess Wolfe-Seltzer, we'll be throwing a bash in her honor in New York—and you're invited. If you just so happen to be 'round these parts, come down to the Wooly in Manhattan's Financial District on the 12th and check out the top 25 RM100 projects that'll be on display, installed with the rest of the great decor of the Wooly. Have a drink, grab some grub, and meet the maker of the Literary Lamp, along with the editors of ReadyMade.
What's the the Wooly, you ask? It started off as a white box in the back of a restaurant in the historic Woolworth building, where there wasn’t much going on. Wooly manager Eric Adolfsen’s father owned said restaurant, and since that space behind it went largely unused, he asked if he could do a bit of re-decorating and start hosting invite-only events. A mix of vintage furniture sourced from a junk store in Bushwick, Danish wallpaper, a fake fireplace rescued from the Plaza, a chandelier from Berlin off eBay, and lots and lots of quirky touches, give the two-room party cavern a look that says “Grandma’s living room in a John Waters film.”
Adolfsen, who also works as a commercial art director, says the Wooly references a “time in New York in the 1940s and ‘50s, when people would go to spots that weren’t really fancy but full of imagination.” He relates to theatrical sets rather than clean and perfect design that became the current model for NYC chic, “a kind of glamour when people didn’t have money, when there was a war,” he says. The perfect place for our party.
