Fall Culture Preview! Part One.

Carmela Ciuraru

Lately I've heard people speaking of something called "summer," and its immminent ending. I've overheard them saying, "Hope you had a great summer!" and speaking of beach getaways. The word "summer" was unfamiliar to me, so I looked it up in the dictionary. I learned that it is the warmest season of the year, occurring between spring and autumn—and that it is usually "a period of fruition,  . . . Continue Reading

Organization is the Key to My Heart

Alexa Fornoff

It's almost Labor Day. Can you believe it? Even though I'm no longer in school, I still (somewhat) adhere to an academic calendar. To me, September means it's time to hunker down and get serious, organize til there's nothing left out of order, and purchase a slew of new books. So when I saw Things Organized Neatly, my heart was all a-flutter. The lines, the categories, the groups, and  . . . Continue Reading

What Are You Cooking This Weekend? I’m Thinking 4 Grain Peach Pancakes

Amy Palanjian

With a long weekend coming up, I hope to have at least one (if not three!) leisurely breakfasts. There are still some peaches at the farmers market and as I love nothing more than whole grain pancakes with fruit (like these with apples), I might need to give these 4-Grain Peach Pancakes from So Good and Tasty a try. I've never considered  . . . Continue Reading

Travel Porn: Thailand (Video Edition!)

Keith Mulvihill

I came across this funny, dreamy video on youtube. It’s exactly what I always want my beach vacations to be. Wake up and walk to the beach in under a minute. This guy seems to have a lot of energy for a beach vacation, but that’s ok: about a minute and a half into the video he heads underwater and the real escape begins.

BTW: The beautiful spot we are treated to here is Similan National  . . . Continue Reading

Behind the Illustrators

Caitlin Thornton

When I initially see a piece of art in a museum or gallery, one of the first things I do is check out the mediums used to make it. I like to imagine the artist sitting in their studio (whatever form that might take) surrounded by felt, oil colors, sand, thread, or other materials, concocting a plan to execute the thing that he or she sees in their head.

Understandably, I'm completely in love  . . . Continue Reading

Spray Paint and Drawer Liners Breathe New Life into a Corner Shelf

Sonia Zjawinski

I have a tendency of finding things at garage sales and thrift stores that I don't necessarily know what to do with, but I know have potential. The corner shelf above is one of those things. I found this guy for $5 at a junk shop in Salinas, CA. For seven months it sat in a closet as I dreamt up how best to use it. It wasn't until my husband and I talked about how to organize our ever  . . . Continue Reading

If you're like me, you think your little buddy is the cutest thing in the whole. wide. world. I've only had my pup for two weeks, and already I have more than 100 snaps of the fluffy guy. Tea For Two Cute!

Erin Loechner

I'm an avid tea drinker, and I'm so excited for the leaves to change so I can officially switch from summery green mango to a cozy blend of chai and milk. And what better way to celebrate the change of seasons than with a bonfire for my beverage?

Enter my new favorite tea trivet: a sweet campfire to keep my tea warm all day long! And when paired with this knitted tea set? It's a fall wonderland indeed!

Bring on the cooler weather, Mother Nature! We're ready.

Contemporary Art Crate Digging

Lily Kane

I just got to flip through one of the most inspiring exhibition catalogues I’ve seen in a long time, this beautifully designed and printed catalogue for The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl, which opened last week at The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. Curator Trevor Schoonmaker put together a collection of works that all employ vinyl records in some capacity. The survey includes  . . . Continue Reading
