Surely I'm not the only one with a super tight-fitting door and all-too-thick doormat, yes? This weekend, after flinging our shag doormat across the entryway with the opening of our front door for the final time, my husband and I decided enough was enough: either the doormat goes, or we do.

After searching online for super thin doormats, we found nothing that would clear our door, which is sealed ever-so-tightly for those wintery Midwestern snow days. Naturally, we got crafty.

You know we at ReadyMade love a good decal, so I sprung for a $25 chalkboard decal and yes, decal'ed my floor. The process was super easy and I love that we can customize our entry to welcome guests by name.

Of course, footprints keep the welcome message from surviving their actual entry, but it's still fun to play with. Another bonus? Vinyl is surprisingly durable and we haven't had any rips, tears or stiletto streaks in the "doormat" thus far.

All in all, I'd give this DIY an A+! Now about that ill-fitting door...
