white sands 2

A few times a month, I want to post readers' favorite travel photos with a few tips for visiting the gorgeous spot. I'll kick it off with these dreamy shots from White Sands National Monument, in southern New Mexico. I was there last summer.

If You Go: The 8-mile dune drive loop is crazy; you feel like you're driving down a gleaming snow-packed road. But the real fun here is climbing about the dunes. Don't make the mistake of showing up here at high-noon when the sun is blazing hot (and killer bright!). Arrive late in the day and stay through sunset; watch the dunes slowly change color and glow. The nearest town is Alamogordo. I've stayed at the White Sands Motel (1101 S. White Sands Blvd) on a few occasions (cheap, clean, no frills). Margo's Restaurant (504 East First Street) offers great Mexican fair for under $10 (try the yummy enchiladas).

Ok, you get the idea; Now it's your turn. Start sending me your entries! Email me here.
