There are many amazing travel photographers out there and I think William Albert Allard is among the best. The photo above is one of my all time favorite western landscape photos. It’s called Lone Rider, Texas, and it was taken in West Texas in 1974. Allard has worked with Geographic Society publications since 1964 and, as you can imagine, he’s built up an impressive body of work.

Paging through the current issue of National Geographic this week I was psyched to learn that Allard has a brand new book out  called William Albert Allard: Five DecadesSays Allard, in the magazine: “Many of the pictures in this book were found along a road, in a bar, down a street, maybe while I was wandering through a country. Often I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, but was simply allowing myself to be open to what serendipity might offer. Just looking.”

If your serendipitous travels bring you to New York City this winter, plan to make a special visit to Steven Kasher Gallery, where a show of 26 large images from the book will be on display (December 2 through January 8, 2011).

I’ll leave you with a few more images…
