Glacial Granite, Wintry Waterfalls
-
Slide 1/13Entering the park on Highway 140, I always get giddy when this sign comes into view. -
Slide 2/13Driving through the Arch Rock entrance feels like entering another dimension. -
Slide 3/13A “local” greeted us within minutes of entering the park. -
Slide 4/13And another… Winter is a great time to observe wildlife in Yosemite. Coyotes can often be seen trotting through white meadows, but this one had clearly shown up for a photo shoot. Its mate was watching from the distance. -
Slide 5/13Over eons, rivers and glaciers somehow carved 3,000 feet into solid granite to create Yosemite Valley. It doesn’t take long before you start to feel very, very small. Winter, with its absence of crowds, amplifies this effect. -
Slide 6/13Shelter From the Swarm: You’ll find popular paths and trails that are overrun with people in summer and fall—like this one to Lower Yosemite Falls—delightfully vacant in winter. -
Slide 7/13Raging Waters: Many of the waterfalls in Yosemite slow to a trickle or dry up altogether in summertime. In winter, not only can you observe magnificent falls like Yosemite, Bridalveil, and Vernal, but you might even hear the waterfalls' crash of melting ice. -
Slide 8/13Walk That Lonesome Valley: Yosemite Valley under a dusting of snow is an otherworldly, magical place. -
Slide 9/13Curry On Ice: The Curry Village Ice Rink is only open from mid-November until early March, and offers the opportunity to skate on what is arguably one of the world's most beautiful outdoor rinks. Tucked beneath the majestic forms of Half Dome and Glacier Point, Curry Village Ice Rink is one of the last remaining outdoor ice-skating venues in California. -
Slide 10/13Take a shuttle bus to The Ahwahnee. The historic lodge was completed in 1927 and designed using an array of influences including Art Deco, Native American, Middle Eastern, and Arts & Crafts Movement. -
Slide 11/13Warm Up By The Fire: The big, crackling fires in The Ahwahnee's massive stone fireplaces will no longer be burning come springtime. Come in from the cold, grab a mug of hot cider or cocoa, and revel in the cozy warmth of this historic lodge's great lounge. -
Slide 12/13Remember to be outside as the sun begins to set, so you can catch Half Dome’s magnificent “pink moment.” -
Slide 13/13It doesn’t last long. This photo was taken just a few moments after the previous one.

In the retail sector where Kimco specializes, many big box, national and luxury chains had strong back-to-school and holiday seasons, leading frozen demand for commercial space to begin thawing.Reis data for the fourth quarter 2011 shows that more than 3 million square feet of neighborhood Replica Alain Silberstein Watches and community center space were leased, the largest increase in occupied stock since the sector’s vacancies began rising in late 2007.
