Two Week Challenge: Ta-Da! Meet the New Room
-
Slide 1/9Clean, minimalist, and not quite finished. Prints above the bed by bee things (who we met in "Texas Two-Step"). -
Slide 2/9The suggestion to get my bed off the floor was immediately taken. A high bed frame allows for tons of storage underneath. -
Slide 3/9Remember that weird salvaged desk thingy? A few coats of spray paint and acrylic got it looking like new. Meet my new nightstand/makeshift vanity. -
Slide 4/9Hot pink make the accent walls pop on the right-hand side of the bed. (That orange, urban-inspired art is from my big sis.) -
Slide 5/9My favorite purchase was definitely the clothing rack from Ikea. It holds more clothes, shoes, and scarves than meets the eye. -
Slide 6/9The color was inspired from the fabric of my new door curtains. I'm working on collaging the other side of the entryway with images from design mags. Silver antlers provide more hanging space for my robe and towels. -
Slide 7/9Ah.. not the greatest image. But the room gets tons of light from the massive window above my desk. The tiny space to the left is a new green-space (my rainbow plant is sprouting, hooray!). -
Slide 8/9With a writer status, a nice work space was essential. The desk was used and has proven to be a trusty piece of space-saving furniture. -
Slide 9/9The hooks already in the studio worked perfectly for hanging my plethora o' purses and some accessories.

The decision to transform a cloth-covered studio/storage space in Brooklyn ended up taking a lot more work than I originally thought. Alas, I am totally pleased to have this new rad room to call my own. On the path to getting to what you see, I learned to start a mega-project like this by working with what I have. Between bouts of hot pink paint, flipping the studio helped me grow up and trust that I can tackle things by myself—but teamwork is preferred for putting together Ikea furniture. Hope you dig my new place to hang and slumber.
