What to Do With Woofers When the Music Stops

by Heather Poli

Once the focal point of every party, the monstrous floor speakers of our childhood have joined the ranks of mullets and acid wash. But don’t abandon these relics. Transformed into more useful objects, your speakers can regain their rightful place at the center of the gathering and bring back the rock.

    1. Remove the speakers and wires from the casing. Save any decorative rings that surround the cone holes.

    2. On the back of the box, line up the casters at the edges, drill pilot holes, and insert the screws.

    3. Carefully turn the whole assembly right side up.

    4. Reaching through the empty speaker holes, attach a lock washer and nut to each screw.

    5. Reattach any decorative rings to the speaker holes.

    6. Seat plumbing hubs and bowls in the holes and fill with candy, chips, booze, or whatever keeps your party thumping.
