1

Wash jars with soap and water to remove any debris—especially if you reuse old jars.

2

Use tape to mask off a rectangle that is at least 1 inch larger than the vinyl lettering.

3

Place the vinyl letters inside the rectangle, leaving a half-inch border between the edge of the letters and the edge of the masking tape.

4

Smooth both the tape and the vinyl letters to the jar, pressing down with your fingers to seal well. This prevents the glass etch from creeping under the mask and blurring the edges of the letters.

5

Using the 1-inch brush, paint glass etch over the entire interior of the masked rectangle and over the vinyl letters.

6

Wait five minutes for the glass etch to do its job, then rinse the etched jar under water to completely remove the solution.

7

Peel off the tape and lettering.

8

Fill the jars with supplies, and enjoy your highly organized life!

The chems are not environmentally sound. putting a piece of paper inside the jar with letters facing out works and It's not sending corrosives into the water supply. Just sayin'.

I have used this method since the early sixties and it was the ONLY way to keep the bugs out. We lived in Phoenix Az. and some times the bugs came home with you from the market. The jars protected the remaining items in the cupboard from infestation. Lost all my spices to bugs before I found jars small enough. Unless you could afford Spice Island, all spices came in tins and boxes. Used jars with seals on lids or canning seals on the jars they would fit, 1/2 gallon size seals. Husband suggested rubber sealant for tools. Worked great, though I had to air the lids for about a week to lose the odor. Had no etching cream, don't know if it was even available then so I used rub down letters we used in our layout design business for advertising. Easy to remove if you want to change the use of the jar. Still use this method for storage. Still live where its hot and dry and today most of the jars have rubber seal attached to the lid. Its what helps make the vaccum seal. If not you can use press and seal before you put the lid on.

nice idea but those jars aren't air tight, fine if you go through sugar, flour, etc. fast (in less than a couple months or so) but otherwise, you might find some bugs in those jars
