This idea came to me while sitting at cafe Buenos Aires in Austin. I was holding a spoon in my right hand thinking aloud to my fiance, wondering how to make the perfect clip for any shape of mug. Then it hit me....A Spoon!

A fun and inventive DIY project that is highly functional (for a workplace of any size) and green by nature. I am the Art Director at The Griffin School, a small college prep high school in Austin, TX with a focus on the arts. I primarily teach 3-D Art throughout the school year to 9th-12 graders. I was asked by a committee of students and teachers to come up with a design method for storing personalized mugs for 60 students. These mugs are custom decorated by our students and are used for water, replacing the use of disposable plastic cups. I designed a storage system using an assortment of second-hand metal spoons. The convex head of the spoon acts as a clip, holding the mug snugly in place against a birch plywood backing. The tools that I used are a little more advanced but the basic concept can be achieved with access to a hand drill. The finished product is a fun, minimalist design that gets heavy use daily. Thank you for considering my project for your magazine and/or online content. My degree is in Industrial Design and I have been a fan ever since I first picked up your magazine in college.
